Yaelle,

The photograph you ask about is rather well known, taken by the master himself, Irving Penn. So famed is the image, it was auctioned at Christie's in 2005, bringing in over $300,000. It is entitled 'Woman in Moroccan palace'. What's particularly special about it is the model, one of the first "super models" of her day, Lisa Fonssagrives, who was also, interestingly, Mrs. Irving Penn. Date: 1951.

Hello,
I stumbled across your blog and love the images you use. Could you tell me specifically where the image of the lady kneeling down in the moorish-style setting is from?
Many thanks!

Dearest jimjam,

What could be better for Christmas than a comment such as yours? It is one of those magnificently penned notes that will find its way into my journal to lighten my spirits on the darkest of days. Your surprise at my gender and attractions is not the first to be voiced, but as I revealed early on in the post, I do seem to defy characterization, even to myself. Which enhances, I think, exchanges like yours, all the more. I shall carry the image of you with your spoon, at the ready, throughout the coming year. My most heartfelt thanks.

So nice to have met you finally EA,I've seen you around from time to time (strictly on my screen). I had no idea you weren't male, or even gay (like myself); what I do know is that I think you're a rare treat, a site for sore eyes, a curiosity, an exquisitely considered read, an old friend and that if you ever decide to share further in your beautiful bowl of pasta topped with glamour for sauce, I shall come running with my spoon...

"I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" (Brian Wilson - The Beach Boys) That's the song I kept hearing upon reading entry number one. Where you wrote about being a private person . . feeling that you belonged to another place or time. Loved that particular line ...as a matter of fact, loved all the lines from all 10 entries! A spellbinding job.
