Now They Are Gone
“Now they Are Gone I Hold Them” 2009, by Hannah Bertram. Ash, Concrete Floor, Absence; Dianne Tanzer Gallery, Melbourne. Via Moon River.
Hannah Bertram’s work seeks to highlight that which is momentary, fleeting and overlooked rather than what is traditionally esteemed, conserved or revered as precious. She explores the possibility of preciousness within the incidental. It proposes an alternative experience in which value is found not in the perpetuity and richness of ornamented objects, but within the subtlety of transient experiences.

Thank you for inrtoducing us to Hannah Bertram’s work. I’m looking forward to spending time with it. Once more, if it weren’t for the internet, art from New South Wales would be a closed book to most of us.
