Maison Martin Margiela
Inside Martin Margiela’s presentation maison where the jewelry, wallpaper and even the flooring will be for sale.
The International Herald Tribune’s Suzy Menkes reporting on Paris couture, Day Three, as she sees it:
I suppose I am just very British, but if you are sitting on a white mushroom stool, on white painted carpet, on top of a white building with a clear view of the Eiffel Tower, surely you don’t run inside at the first drop of rain?
I opened my umbrella to watch a model in the usual pantyhose headdress walk round a fake swimming pool to show off the multicolored eyelash vest and the one made of blue Bic pen tops.
But inside, I found something much more intriguing, where the fine jewelry was being shown off against a backdrop of photo-screen walls. Hey! I could buy it! Not just the jewelry but also the wallpaper and the wooden-plank linoleum flooring that will go on sale as part of a home collection next year. The elusive Martin Margiela may (or may not) have left his own maison — but at least he wants to share the décor with us.
