Heaven above Sea Level

There’s something positively enticing about the combination of good wine and great art. And to find all of it bound together on the grounds of the Estancia Colomé, a 19th-century wine estate, situated 7,600 ft above sea level, nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains in northwest Argentina, only enhances its mystique.
The newly opened James Turrel Museum, the only museum of its kind dedicated specifically to the work of Turrel, considered by many one of the most important contemporary space and light artists of his generation, is 18,000 square feet of pure idyllic bliss. Where else can one engage in art appreciation viewing one of the finest collections in the world, while sipping the elixir of the Gods amid a backdrop that spans the breathtakingly beautiful Andean highlands. To my mind, it’s the closest thing to heaven on earth or, at the very least, heaven above sea level.
