Bond Lover’s Memorable Martinis
James Bond is famous for his uncompromising tastes in martinis (though he does prefer vodka rather than the customary gin). So in honor of “Quantum of Solace”—the 22nd Bond film opening today-—try the Bond Classic Martini or this refined version made for the nondiscriminatory palate that includes both gin AND vodka and Lillet Blanc; Bond’s very own creation he dubbed the “Vesper” featured in Casino Royale. {A Vesper differs from Bond’s usual cocktail of choice, the martini, in that it uses both gin and vodka, Kina Lillet instead of vermouth, and a lemon peel instead of an olive.}
Daniel Craig, the current 007, is most certainly a man of appetites so in the spirit of variety, Food & Wine offers a few recipes (ten to be exact) with twenty-first century flair like the frosty Lemon Sorbet Martini, the tart Mirto Martini, made with a Sardinian myrtle berry liqueur, or the Ice Wine Martini, garnished with a skewer of green grapes. Feeling a little adventurous? See and sample them all…
