Depot in Bloom

A series of new work by photographer and British Vogue Creative Director Robin Derrick, currently on show in London, offers a visually stunning take on a relatively mundane, albeit beautiful, subject – floral arrangements.

Set against stark black backdrops, the meticulously composed portraits are a careful exercise in raw aesthetics and technical mastery, strikingly clear, hyper-real blow-ups that you almost want to touch.

The post-production phase on each image took around 100 hours, and it shows. Up to 15 original transparencies were shot and then combined, in part, to elicit the sharpest elements for the final print.

The exhibition, at The Old Train Depot, closes 8 October – well worth the rushed trip if you happen to be in town.
