Several years ago I came across this book and loved it...specifically Gloria's patchwork floor. Later when I wanted to look at the photos again I couldn't remember what book it had been in. Thanks for posting...I'm off to order a copy!

Bonjour, your vision of Gloria Vanderbilt is interesting and it's clear that although some people like her are capable to reinvent their life as much as refurbishing homes we still need to know more and more about them, how did they achieved that, style is about knowing how to live, god knows she tried hard, as a former fashion designer I introducd to her in her United Nation Plaza apartment, SHE WAS STYLE! Thanks for your article, plus let me tell you how divinely beautiful she is

I was so young and so fortunate; Ms. Vanderbilt came to dine one evening at the Tony Duquette Studio, where I lived for several years starting in the late 70's. I was design asst to the Duquettes. Ms. Vanderbilt had EQUAL extravagant, effective style, yet chic and Tim Vreeland, son of Diana Vreeland was there for this intimate dinner. Everyone was genuine, charming, interesting and amusing. Kudos for recognizing her great abilities!! We need them so now, frankly.

Robert,
What a wonderful memory that so perfectly captures the essence of Ms. Vanderbilt and the culture of the times she inhabited. You're right -- we could so benefit from them now.
