Free Global Calling

Out of Palo Alto, a new free based cell service to connect you with your overseas friends, relatives and internet dating pals called Jaxtr. Jaxtr surpasses Skype’s capability to connect far-flung friends by routing communications through your cell, freeing you from your computer. How it works: Jaxtr assigns each of your cohorts a unique local number, using your area code regardless of their location, whether they’re down the block, across the ocean, or Jean Claude Van Damme. To reach them, just call/text/pre-written ping that number and your communiqué’ll travel immediately to their cell through the magical Jaxtr switchboard.

For those interested in getting excessively friendly, install Jaxtr’s “call me” widget on virtually any social platform, from Flickr to MySpace to ebay — allowing you to once again say hallo to Rölf, and make a bid on his sweet used skis. At Jaxtr.com [via thrilllist]

  1. Thanks for taking note of jaxtr. To expand on your comment about inserting the widget into social platforms, you can also hide your personal numbers, providing extra security while you’re getting excessively friendly! Plus there’s now cafe jaxtr (www.jaxtr.com) where you can reach out to - and talk with - folks all over the world about tons of different interests. It’s hyper-social.

Stay tuned for more great features.
