Nature’s Castles

If you ever had a tree house when you were a kid or wished you had, there’s still time. And we’re not talking about shinnying up a rope to get there, but entering into an unimaginably lush and exclusive little fortress, aptly called Nature’s Castles. Tucked up high and away amidst the boughs and branches, Longwood Gardens, outside Philadelphia, is showcasing a spectacular display of tree houses by the country’s best designers at their Grand Opening this coming weekend, April 26 & 27. Hobnob with the designers, the spring warblers, your kids and get a few tree hugs in for yourself. Meanwhile, let your inner child come out to play in three fantastic creations that’s sure to send you packing back to Walden.

The Lookout Loft, a rustic Adirondack-style treehouse in the shady Forest Walk.

The Canopy Cathedral, an ornate two-story house inspired by a Norwegian church overlooking the Italian Water Garden.

The Birdhouse, located in the Terrace Woodland, offers bird’s-eye views of the surrounding natural landscape.
