  1. This is a very pretty picture but I’m wondering if it’s building, sculpture, or both. The description on its Flickr page says “Deconstructivist Architecture” which isn’t helping me.

    David,

I personally love this architect’s work. Daniel Libeskind (Berlin), is considered to be a contemporary deconstructivist architect. I believe this photo is from a museum as the tags indicate, but I don’t more than that. Perhaps one of our readers can help. [UPDATE: This photograph was taken in the Jewish Museum in Berlin designed by Libeskind].

On February 27, 2003, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) selected Studio Daniel Libeskind and their widely-applauded design to guide the reconstruction of the World Trade Center site in New York. If you click the link on ffffound, it takes you over to flickr where you can see more of his work. We’re actually considering doing a piece on him for an upcoming post. The following quote out of “The Space of Encounter” offers a bit more insight on his methodology:

“Ever since I began architecture, I had an abhorrence to conventional architecture offices. There was something about the atmosphere of redundancy, routine and production that made me allergic to all forms of specialization and so-called professionalism. Ten years ago we founded our office in Berlin as a result of a decision, an accident, a rumor on the street and began an unimaginable journey down a path on which we are still travelling.”
