Opening Sequence: Raging Bull
Special thanks to clusterflock for reminding us of one of the all time favorite title sequences in the history of motion pictures: Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull (1980). This simple and sparse imagery of a fighter (Robert Deniro) warming up, filmed in slow motion to the accompaniment of the heartbreaking strains of “Intermezzo,” Pietro Mascagni’s most famous opera Cavalleria Rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) is an inspired masterpiece.
