Political Countdown
Some great political reporting being generated by a raucous campaign.
Frank Rich of the NY Times warns of “The Billary Road to Republican Victory” with this admonition: “Any Democrat who seriously thinks that Bill will fade away if Hillary wins the nomination — let alone that the Clintons will escape being fully vetted — is a Democrat who, as the man said, believes in fairy tales.”
On the other side of the aisle, Reuters notes that Republican Mitt Romney is now in a tie with John McCain three days before a critical presidential primary in Florida, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released today.
Bob Herbert also from the Times offers a thoughtful and critical analysis in “Questions for the Clintons”: “…it’s legitimate to ask, given the destructive developments of the last few weeks, whether the Clintons are capable of being anything but divisive. The electorate seems more polarized now than it was just a few weeks ago, and the Clintons have seemed positively gleeful in that atmosphere.”
Out of truthdig: Yes, We Can. The full effect of Barack Obama’s transcendent victory speech in South Carolina has yet to be felt, but his historically stirring and inspirational words have already generated praise from around the country and even across the political aisle. Whether this speech proves to be the turning point in this election, we don’t know. What we do know is that Obama has made Hillary Clinton’s contention that words don’t matter seem so very small and suspect.
