A Nose for Poetry
A wondrous review on the romantic tale of a 17th-century French cavalier poet with a soul as big as his outsize nose in the NY Times today. Cyrano de Bergerac which opened last night at the Richard Rogers Theatre is, according to Ben Brantley, “an immortal popcorn entertainment that pushes emotional buttons just as effectively today as it did when it was written 110 years ago. … David Leveaux’s disarming revival…is a double shot of silvery hokum, sweet but surprisingly potent. And it goes down so easily, you’re drunk and misty-eyed before you know it.” A production to behold.
At the Richard Rodgers Theater, 226 West 46th Street, Manhattan; (212) 307-4100. Through Dec. 23.
WITH: Kevin Kline (Cyrano de Bergerac), Jennifer Garner (Roxane), Daniel Sunjata (Christian de Neuvillette), Max Baker (Ragueneau), Euan Morton (Ligniere/Theophraste Renaudot), Chris Sarandon (Comte de Guiche), John Douglas Thompson (Le Bret) and Concetta Tomei (Roxane’s Duenna/Sister Marthe).
