On Wired’s blog, news that the Los Angeles “smog police” are staking out polluting vehicles by parking white vans, equipped with ultraviolet and infrared sensors that measure the amount of pollution spewing out of the tailpipes of passing cars, near the L.A. freeway on ramp, as well as other places around the city.
